Hi, Try to use mysql and auth. But, got the msg "ERROR: bad config file (1 eorros)", when I type "/usr/local/ser". Is anything wrong in my ser.cfg? Hello Is there a built in function that can check to see if a user exists (not registered). I have a need to send different error codes depending on whether a phone number is unallocated or it is allocated but not registered. during my pstn gateway survey, some people asked about cheap PSTN gateways. Let me share what I know, speak up if you know more. analog ------- AudioCodes and AlliedTelesyn provide SIP FXO gateways wuith four ports for about $1000. We have both of them in our lab (i.e., they do exist) but haven't tested them yet (i.e., we don't know if they work). MediaTrix might have some too, perhaps sightly cheaper, but they denied shipping to us as we are not in their interoperability club (which makes me cautios about their interoperability). arrayvox was claiming to have some very cheap ones, but I neither know if they shop nor if they work. The same for welltech. in general, not only is a challenge to make the sip part of it work, but also the analog -- tone recoginition may be pretty challenging. hello every one, I am facing some problem in the OPTIONS method. I am getting "404 not found" response. I wanted to query the server for its capabilities. I wanted to know which are the methods it supports from the 200OK response of my OPTIONS method. I'd guess that many folks on the list are as interested in finding a low cost PC based gateway as I am. My research has uncovered on possible candidate, and caused some confusion at the same time. I came upon a product called Wildcard T100P. A single loop T1/PRI card with linux drivers, for the oh-so-reasonable price of US $500. The catch seems to be that there is no gateway code written to date to use the card, at least no code whose only function is to be a gateway. There is also a single port FXO card for US $100 It turns out that the OSS PBX Asterisk can leverage the card, has support for SIP, and is in general really cool, but too feature rich to be used as a PSTN gateway. Sure the price is right (free). Has anyone worked on or with the Wildcard? Details about the card can be found at http://www.zapatatelephony.org/ What is lacking appears to be a package that can leverage the Wildcard library with a SIP frontend. I am tempted to try to workout what the framework of such a package would look like, and try to rough out some code. The problem with that is I'm no coder*. The source for the Wildcard driver is well documented, so I may try anyways. Can anyone recommend a SIP stack for Linux, where the code is documented well enough so that someone not an expert on SIP programming can figure it out? * Not professionally. [Serusers] ENUM tel records

Juha's ENUM lookup routine currently looks up the e164.arpa tree for a phone number and searches for a sip record, which is returned and used to rewrite the current uri. ENUM also allows tel: records amongst others. What, if anything should be done with those, and how should they be treated relative to sip records? I would assume a tel: record could be interpreted as a kind of call forward, which could be arbitrarily staged. One way of handling this could be to explicitely look for tel records with, e.g., an argument to enum_query() to have any tel records rewrite the current uri, and then go on to look up the result (maybe recursively which requires a loop counter and an abort condition). so the resolution could look like while (loopcount--) { enum_query("tel"); enum_query("sip"); } what do you think? -Michael

Their exist no support for storing accounting information in the MySQL database. You can use the acc module, which then will log informations about call starting and ending into syslog. But currently your are on your own to accumulate this informations from syslog. If you would be so kind to search the mailing list archives yourself you will find that we are currently talking to one users about publishing their solution. hi all, i mailed earlier regarding this. this is really urgent. i have just installed SER (version 0.8.10) along with the MySql support. i made entries for 2 users using "serctl add" command and am able to place a call between them using MSN messenger. i want to know what accounting support is available using MySql. what settings need to be done? are any records generated and placed in the database? how do i access these records? in ser.cfg i have loaded modules acc.so and mysql.so. pls help asap. thanks, sunithi

[Serusers] Setting up Presence server module

Hi Jan, I've been trying the CVS version of SER to test the latest Presence Agent module. I'm using a very nearly identical configuration file to "pa.cfg" in etc/. The server seems to start correctly and is listening at the specified port. However, when any client sends a REGISTER, the server crashes. Is there anything we can do to debug this or any previous CVS version you consider to be estable enough to use for the time being? Well, I have no problem releasing the code, but there are a few technical constraints. - This is very much a test jig. For example, it uses psql via a pipe to do all database access. That stuff is layered out, so it can easily be directed at a real postgres perl module, but we have some issues with perl modules so tend not to use them, at least in early development. I would expect it to start groaning at around 100 calls/minute. We're in a beta test at the moment and will be in production within a month. When our call volume increases, we will certainly recode this in C. However, using direct database access from perl would probably give an 80% of the gains, so that might be the next step. - It depends on a special syslogd version. The change is simple -- the timestamp is written as "seconds since 1970" to msec precision instead of the human-readable representation. Unix time_t is simply more natural for this kind of work. I didn't attempt to layer the timestamp processing, but it only occurs in one or two places, so introducing mktime() and giving up on msecs would generalize this. I have a converted Linux syslogd.c. I'm pretty sure less than 10 lines changed. I know I converted a FreeBSD syslogd as well, but I can't find it. - The script uses the database to keep state. The first INVITE inserts the call detail and the call is active (no call_end time). The first BYE with matching call_id updates the call_end time. Heuristics are then applied to match each log entry from the gateway (cisco based) to the database entry. This allows detection of missed BYEs. The point is that the the database is integral in the matching algorithm. The side-benefit is that the database can be used to display active calls. The algorithm is dependent on efficient database indexing. - There is no particular dependency on database type except I do record endpoint IPs as Postgres "inet" types, but these are not searched so could as easily be "char" type. A "timestamp" type of some kind is pretty much crucial. So, I'm happy to push the code out to the group "as is". If nothing else, there are probably code fragments worthy of harvest. I can also put a bit of time into generalizing it a little before making it available. Opinions? I just updated ser from cvs and encounter the problem that ser will no longer start. I have my own module and a function (exec_pol) in that is started from ser.cfg in the route block. This used to work fine, but since the latest update from ser, ser just terminates saying "Parse Error: Command cannot be used in the block". I got this message after make all, make install and trying to start ser. I then realised that my module was not compiled anew because the find_export function now has more arguments (the NO_SCRIPT on, which it didn't need before). Having fixed this, things compile fine, but the error persists and I cannot start ser. Hi, I was wondering if something like this could be possible with SER: If we use SER as the SIP server for a small company and they wanted to have access to a SIP PSTN Gateway, could we just open an account with Iconnect or Vonage and have all the company's PSTN traffic be redirected to the Iconnect SIP gateway by SER (SER would have to rewrite the INVITE so that the originator has the username/password of the account that we setup). In the eyes of Iconnect or Vonage the calls would be coming in from one user(the account that we opened). I know this is a little extreme but seeing that SER can rewrite and manipulate so many other things, maybe it could do this as well. Thanks, Ricardo

Hello Jiri, Of course, I meant the non-paranoic meaning, that is forcing the subsequent requests to go through the proxy. The question is related to the FCP module I'm trying to complete. In order to close the previously opened ports, the module needs to see BYE and CANCEL messages. When adding record-routing header from a natted proxy, this address must be changed to a public one whenever the message is for the public Internet. Is my understanding correct? My other concern with Record Routing is whether this translation for the request involves translating the RR field back to the one of the natted proxy, when the response hits the proxy. I learned that Radius Digest Authentication cannot be used because it needs the Radius server to know the cleartext password of the user. Is there any other method that I can use in this situation? Folks, We found that in some cases it is necessary to have a function which will save contact without sending reply to the UA. For example, it is useful when there is a need to do stateless forwarding of the REGISTER request, but at the same time save it in the local registration database (sending reply in this case will disable any retransmissions that might be necessary to ensure that the request actually reached the destination). Attached patch provides necessary functionality, it would be nice to have it included into the next release. Thanks! -Maxim

Hi, When we have a situation in which a PC changes IP addresses (like on dialup), we end up with multiple registrations (see below). Is it possible to configure SER so that it only has the latest registration? If there are such contacts, Request-URI will be overwritten with the contact that has the highest q value and optionally the rest will be appended to the message (depending on append_branches parameter value)." ....but as you can see all 3 contacts have the same "q value" (whatever that stands for). Hi, I have successfully registered the Windows Messenger (4.7) to SER. I was also able to make SIP calls to PSTN by entering the number by selecting "Start a Voice Conversation" -> "Other" -> "Enter e-mail address". But how to enter the number directly from the dialer? I am trying to bring up the anthentication module. Here are the list of what I have done. 1. Create MySQL tables and modify the permissions (SER could connect MySQL successfully) 2. Hi, I think there is a bug in the tm module of he CVS tree: timer.c line 283: if (SEND_BUFFER( r_buf )<=0) { SEND_BUFFER returns -1 on error, and 0 on success, so it should be if (SEND_BUFFER( r_buf )==-1) { SER always sends "503 Service Unavailable" respond after sending INVITE retransmissions in our test environment. Modifying timer.c solved this problem. I've been testing a bunch of soft clients out and Microsoft Messenger seems to work very well. It has the notion of contacts that are online. I guess this is what the Jabber modules is for, right? Right now, for me to start a phone call with Messenger it is weird, I have to: 1) click on 'Start a Voice Conversation' 2) click on the 'Other' tab when the new window pops up. 3) Enter a long email address '4695461235(a)augustvoice.net' in the prompted box. ... Then my phone call starts. It would be much better if I could just pick from my list of contacts. Is the jabber configuration and deployment pretty easy? Does it play well with non-jabber clients? By the way, we have about 20 beta users registering with SER routing calls to and from the PSTN. It is working very well. ---greg Greg Fausak

Hi all, Just a question before I embark on my next SER venture. I now have a couple of Cisco 7960 phones sitting behind fw's and using transverse NAT and SER auth (The Auth working thanks to JAN) @ different homes. All these homes are connected to the internet via ADSL and use DDNS, my SER server sits on the Internet and have a fixed IP and DNS entry. This config works really well. The next step is to add a Cisco 2600 router to the config and hook 4 FXO ports up to our PABX @ work. I only want authenticated users on SER to be able to forward requests to the router, I can tell the router only to accept connections that originated on the SER server. Is this possible on SER. Thanks Emil. Yes, after I comment the PSTN gateway part, it worked. Lots of error messages came out during the bootup of the server. I doubt there must be something wrong with the re-compilation. I tried the precomiled version (rpm package) on Redhat linux 8.0 first. But the server couldn't bootup (it showed 'Terminated' when booting). Has anyone ever compiled SER on Redhat 8.0? [Serusers] connecting two sites

hi guys/gals, I have two ser sites serving two different domains and I want to let them see each other. Earlier this week, someone on this list said that no special config had to be done to get this done, but I am having problems. Both the ser servers are on machines behind the firewalls for security. I have forwarded UDP ports 5060-5070 through to the ser servers. I can see people online going one way, but not the other. The site that can, is able to send messages to the other site and get a response back, but not vice versa. [Serusers] OPTIONS method

What, if anything, should the SER server do with a OPTIONS method? I am receiving this method, from a phone, right after the phone makes a conversation. That is, the final ACK is sent from the phone and a call is in progress when the phone decides to send an OPTIONS message. I thought OPTIONS was a pre-call sort of thing, not for the current call. Anyway, I thought I could just capture the OPTIONS method and send a 486 busy reply with sl_send_reply(). Didn't work. ---greg

hi, I have just today started playing with SIPS at work and found ser fun. BTW, all the following is done with micro$oft messenger 4.6 for testing (eugh!) I have set it all up at home and am trying to connect from work. I know the connection is getting through the firewall because a tcpdump shows all the expected results, and I know that ser is running ok, because I can login from my home workstations. Does ser do any sort of access control based on ip addresses that may be causing it to reject my external connections? Hi! I have writen a module, may be somebody is interested in it. It is used to determinate if a user has appropriate permission to establish a call. The permissions can be managed in configuration files very simular to hosts.allow and hosts.deny. Every value in the configuration files are regular expresions, so it is easy to define rules. Example for a rule: "^sip:361[0-9]*@abc.com$" EXCEPT "^sip:.*3@abc.com$", "^sip:.*4@abc.com$" : ALL Every PSTN endpoint beginning with 361 except those ending with 3 or 4 can establish calls with everybody. In general: from_list [EXCEPT from_list] : to_list [EXCEPT to_list] from_list and to_list are comma separated expressions Expressions are treated as case insensitive POSIX Extended RegularExpressions. Hi, I am thinking of locking the user hardphone MAC Address onto Layer 2 Switch level. This way even if the user move around their phone, it will be blocked. The disadvantage is that it will create opreration nightmare and will only work in ETTx environment. In a broadband wireless environment, there may be no layer 2 switch in between the network and subsriber. There are 2 categories of subscribers. One is only want to use their home phone just like what the legacy voice network do. They won't bother to know about username/password. (For example illiterate elderly citizen). I must cater for these kind of users. Yet provide a secure environment for them. Another is subscribers who want to have more flexibility. They may have hardphone, softphone, pda, notebook who can logon everywhere in the on-net network. These users may have more than one phone number to their home per user account. These users will have to be reseponsile for their username/password. I am looking for all possibbilities and limitations there is before drawing any implementation plan. So far, my testing is working well. Sorry, auth was excluded from compilation by default. Either update sip_router/Makefile from the repository or edit sip_router/Makefile, look for line containing excluded_modules, remove auth from it and do again make all. Jan. I'm trying to get SER up and I need auth. I'm not a Mysql user and, frankly, I'd rather not need to learn it, just to get authentication support. I wish there were a middle-ground between no-auth at all and a full-blown Mysql installation. I tried the Cookbook approach, using Dan Austin's HOWTO for setting up Mysql for SER, but the commands do not work as shown so I'm left with learning Mysql through and through to debug why those cookbook commands don't work. I'm very familiar with SIP and I want to test SER, not a new Sql server DB engine. It seems like Mysql is a distraction to that effort. Is anyone working on something like a flat-file module to replace Mysql? Any pointers for the best place to start on developing such a module (i.e. shortcuts)? Thanks, - david

Hello, I have sucessfully configured SER to connect to mysql, but, now when I execute ./ser start only 3 process are loaded. If I load SER using the default ser.cfg file it loads 11 processes. Any thoughts.. Mike

[Serusers] Parsing Message

If I have a SIP message in a char* variable, then I assume that I can parse it into a struct sip_msg* using a function in ser. The most obvious function seems to be parse_msg(). This does not seem to work to my expectation. Here is a code snippet (which is close to the code in receive.c): char* response // contains my message struct sip_msg msg // this is were the result should go memset(msg, 0, sizeof(struct sip_msg)); response[len] = 0; msg->buf = response; msg->len = len; if (parse_msg(response, len, msg))!=0) { LOG(L_ERR, "ERROR"); } LOG(L_ERR, "After parse msg ...") dump_sip_msg(msg) // this just prints the fields of the message to LOG dump_sip_msg() works fine on the incoming sip message, so the problem is either in my SIP message or in my use of the parse function. However, I think my message is fine (it is the received message with the first line replaced with SIP/2.0 600 Policy Server Msg date time). I enclose a cut from /var/log/messages.
