i can easily test in ser.cfg that a request comes from a particular ip
address, but how do i test that a request comes from a particular fifo
or unix socket?

The request being injected via FIFO/sockets does not trigger execution
of the routing script. To make this happen, you would need to send the
request via loopback interface to the server itself and then you can
test for the source IP to be equal to 127.0.0.1
