Hello,
a new presence server which follows the standards and latest draft of SIMPLE has been committed on CVS. With this occasion I want to introduce Anca Vamanu, a new developer which will be in charge of maintaining the presence related stuff.
The new module passed successfully a period of tests with common SIP UAs having SIMPLE extensions. It is still long way until we get full SIMPLE extensions, but we have the most desired functionalities: presence info, watcher info and XCAP. Some of you already tested it, and would be great if we can collect the experiences everyone encounters with presence extensions and different UA. There is a dokuwiki page where everybody can contribute:
http://www.openser.org/dokuwiki/doku.php/presence:presence-module
Since there are not so many mature implementation in client side, the testing proves to be a difficult process, and your help is very welcome. The dokuwiki page includes some sample config files that can be used as starting point.
The news on web site and the readme for the module: http://www.openser.org/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=62&... http://www.openser.org/docs/modules/devel/presence.html
Next on track is a generic module which will be able to publish presence information in behalf of dummy entities. For example will publish online/offline for hardphones registered on user location table.
Looking forward to your feedback.
Cheers, Daniel
Hi,
A question. Is the module dependant on mysql ... or can be used with other db backends? I am sort of forced to use dbtext ... damn embedded systems :) In the module readme says it depends on it ... but i hope it just means that it depends on a db backend ... any.

Hi Cesc,
the module depends on a DB backend and not specifically on mysql - it might be a documentation error ...

Gaim 2.00beta3.1 has SIMPLE support and is able to interact with the new presence implementation although it has some problems with the status of the other gaim buddies...it does not send a PUBLISH with closed status when closing gaim.
There's also openwengo-ng...but I haven't been able to compile it (yet!!) on a linux platform.
Samuel.

I did some tests with openwengo (old one I guess), it had problems with updating presence information properly. It does not preserve ETag header, thus will look like new presence information, rather than update of the previous one.
The ng version looked very unstable at that moment.

Not sure you got my update testing since I never see my mail on the mailing list (*sign*), anyway, I've done some good testing with Gaim "SIMPLE" and everything works so far. However, and this is most likely a Gaim issue, Gaim sends in the "Contact" porting of a SUBSCRIBE, as "username@host's default IP". There are two issues with this. One if your configured like I am, using an OpenVPN tunnel, the tunnels address isnt used which means the user is never seen and you can't have multiple SIMPLE domains defined in Gaim. The work around is to edit the Gaim "prefs.xml" file to at least have one domain working. Anyway, I'm trying to look into Gaim and see how to correct this action as part of my testing of OpenSER/Presence. Another issue (or not) is seeing watchers set to active when they arent logged into the server, should this be set to inactive? (not sure I understand all the presntity-watcher stuff yet so I must be mis-reading)

Hello Chris,
I started a dokuwiki page to collect such experiences with different SIP clients. I added your comments about Gaim, you may want to update.

The watcher should send an unSUBSCRIBE to become inactive watcher. Did you see the SUBSCRIBE with Expires 0 when the phone unREGISTER?

Daniel I'm side tracked from this for the moment and did not want to leave you hanging, I didnt notice the "SUBSCRIBE with Expires 0", when I can get back to it, I tests for that....... As for Gaim, most of the pieces for addressing the Gaim issue have been identified and the now I need to figure out how to make the needed changes, which so far looks to be just API mods and/or enhancements to Gaim.
