Hi,
Are there any generally used methods for sending SIP NOTIFY messages
to a phone that is registered through openser?
I.e. for sending events to sip phones?
For example, I imagine a script that would register to the
mydomain.org openser server as an administrative user and send a
NOTIFY packet to user(a)mydomain.org.
I'm hoping not to reinvent the wheel here.

The xten phone can be told to reset or update using NOTIFY events.
The linksys phone can be told to reset, update, or publish its
configuration using NOTIFY events. It appears that sipsak is probably
the solution. I had looked through its man page and had been hoping
for something like --method NOTIFY. That plus putting Event: in the
body would have solved the problem. I didn't realize you could script
a packet with sipsak.

Ahh! Now I understand what you mean.
You can send such NOTIFYs with openserctl, e.g. openserctl cisco_restart
I think this is very old and may not work anymore. But by reading
openserctl code and can get an idea how to make it (injecting the NOTIFY
into openser via FIFO). You just have to now the correct syntax.
There is also support in Asterisk (see sip.conf for syntax)
