thank you for the patch! Are you aware that you can get e.g. the user of any uri with the available transformations [1]?
So $(ai{uri.user}) should give you the same output like the $aiU specified above.

erm, I heard of it, but I thought it's not as fast as put that into pvar.c ... or am I wrong?

some are faster some are the same, depending from case to case, here should be faster. Anyhow, the code is frozen for 1.3 release, please register your patch to the tracker to be reviewed after release. https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?group_id=139143&atid=743023
