Hello,
I am considering to release Kamailio v5.8.4 (out of branch 5.8) sometime next week, most likely on Tuesday, Nov 12, 2024. If anyone is aware of issues not yet on the bug tracker, report them there asap in order to have a better chance to be fixed.
Cheers, Daniel
Is there an (easy) way to view the pending changes for this?
Regards, Kaufman

Hello,
(nitpick) 5.8 is a branch, not a tag. 😊
For the archives, the following command will list the difference between the 5.8.3 tag and the 5.8 branch:
$ git log 5.8.3...origin/5.8
Also keep in mind that many “cherry-picks” are done as part of the release preparations, so right now there are only a few commits listed by the above command.
Cheers,
Henning

Hello,
another option is to look at the commits in the branch 5.8:
Usually all (or most) of them are cherry-picked with reference, so their commit message include an id (made link on the web portal) reference to the commit in the master branch, otherwise the commit message is the same as for master branch.
I just pushed the commits that were considered for backporting, only 1 or 2 are still pending review as they failed to merge directly on backport. If someone does not find a commit in the branch 5.8 that should be there for 5.8.4, do report it here.
Cheers, Daniel

While I'm definitely offering to provide support, I'll point out that generally speaking kamailio script is largely back compatible to 4.x, with more changes occurring in module parameters than in the routing portion of the config. I'd recommend setting up a 5.8 Kamailio server (along with any other necessary services like a DB) in docker compose and trying your script as a basic sanity test. You can read the release notes for each minor version (4.2, 4.3, 4.4, 5.0, etc) as the changes tend to be fairly well documented.

I'm in the process of performing a similar upgrade. Instead of doing a big upgrade I went with several incremental upgrades between major releases. It provides better control over the entire upgrade process.

Hello,
short note that Kamailio v5.8.4 is going to be released today, therefore any commit to branch 5.8 has to be announced on sr-dev mailing list and wait for the ack before pushing it in order to avoid conflicts with release building processes. Once the release announcement is out, commits can be pushed to branch 5.8 as usual.
Cheers, Daniel
