Hi guys, I'm give up with SEMS as media server for voicemail cause it can't successly run although I've followed how to install SEMS at http://ftp.iptel.org/pub/sems/doc/current/Configure-Sems-Ser-HOWTO.html and there is no answer for the problem So I decide to try Asterisk as the voicemail server. But I never use Asterisk before. I really need help in configuring Asterisk. What should I have (the softwares) before compiling and configuring Asterisk as voicemail server. Thanx for the attention.
Regards,
Meidiana

There's a lot of documentation available on the network for how to configure and setup Asterisk. There's even a whole book on the topic available on http://www.asteriskdocs.org
The Voip-Info wiki also contains a lot of documentation, http://www.voip-info.org

If you have and extra PC or PC powerful enough to use VMWare, then better visit trixbox.org... Trixbox is an Asterisk package with web interface to configure everything, including voicemail, conf rooms, routes, etc. Really easy to use, as opposed to configuring Asterisk manually.

An advice: If you don't get answers on iptel.org mailing lists, its most often because you have not formulated the problem in a way that makes it easy to answer. I cannot see why you shouldn't be successful with SEMS when so many others are. g-) PS: For Asterisk help, you are better off subscribing to Asterisk mailing lists. And visiting http://www.asterisk.org/ before shooting off a beginner post to thousands of subscribers might also be smart.

Hi.. Thanx for replying my question. Bout the advises, I really thank you too. I'd like to try for the last time in using SEMS, but I need some explanation for a few questions below.. Do you think if the the version of SER can cause SEMS doesn't run? I'm using SER 0.9.7 now. My ser.cfg doesn't recognize syntax below: modparam("tm", "pass_provisional_replies", 1) is it because of the version of SER also? Then I used to test my SER with 2 UA. UAs are all online, let's say A and B. A calls B but B doesn't reply, so it will surely forward to voicemail (115), but at A softphone appear that call is fail:not found. Do I need to add table to store this voicemail? Hello,
there is a tutorial on the website about setting up a voicemail server with SEMS on port 5070: http://www.iptel.org/howto_sems_voicemail
If you have problems in setting up this please let us know at which step it does not work so we can help you better and fix the howto as well.
When you have set up this then for the INVITE you want to send to voicemail you only need to * add a header P-Email-Address containing the email address the email should be sent to (e.g. append_hf("P-Email-Address: gotcha_em@yahoo.com\r\n") * t_relay to port 5070

Hi, I still have problem when forwarding call to voicemail I thought I have configured it the right way As your advise, I add append_hf into my ser.cfg before t_relaying
if (uri =~ "sip:1.*@") { log("Forwarding to 5070"); rewritehostport("localhost:5070"); append_hf("P-Email-Address:voicemail@pcr.ac.id\r\n"); t_relay_to_udp("localhost","5070"); break; }
is that true btw?? the address I used is from one of aliases I added to SER database it still can't work when the call forwards to voicemail. for additional info, I configured the eyebeam to call 115@pcr.ac.id to forward to voicemail and 113@pcr.ac.id to check for voicemail.Hmm..tell me if I'm wrong my sems.conf is below. thanx for the attention

that looks correct.
what does the SEMS log look like if you start it with -D 3 -E ?
