here's a microsoft article that speaks of a scenario where something causes the sip
accounts option to disappear and how to fix it
....if the one above doesn't work here's something else i found....

i wonder if this will help. also it shows entering a password at some point in these
pictures. i'm not sure about how to authenticate the wm client with a sip proxy

I am not using MSN messenger. I am trying with the same version as Samuel. But on my PC
"sip accounts" option does not show up.
Anyway, I think it doesn't support authorization, does it ?

Sometimes micro$oft messenger does not uninstal as expected...did you completely remove
all previous micro$ messenger staff before installing 5.1 version???

Why could that be ?
On which Windows version do you use that ? I use XP Pro.
Do you have any idea why that option does not show up on my messenger ?

I downloaded Windows messenger 5.1 (5.1.0701) from the link you sent.
Unfortunately I don't see "SIP Communications Service Account" in the
Accounts window.
Only 2 options (.NET Passport Account and Exchange Account) What
version do you use ?

* You should see mid-way down the check box for SIP Communications
Service Account. Check that. and type in the sip (aor) name that you
want to register into the ser (sip registrar) with. i didn't preceed it with sip:
i only typed xyz(a)domain.com
* then i clicked "advanced" and checked "configure settings" and put
in my hostname of the ser box.....ser.domain.com.......and then
checked "udp"
that's it

How do you connect to a SIP server with Windows Messenger 5.1 ?
It only allows me to connect to Passport.

a) Can any one suggest a free IM client that I can use to test
SIP+SIMPLE using the ser + presence ?
I tried with windows messenger 5.1, but it does not seems to be
working with the ser + presence server configuration that I used the
latest snap shot (ser-0.10.99-dev35-pa-4.1_src.tar.gz).
b) Also, can any one suggest a working sample config for presence
(without using the database)?
Any suggestions on this is highly appreciated.
