Thank you :-) ([sip-implementors] is for discussing of sip

As for your problem -- please, look first at your log files. It is
otherwise difficult to guess why ser does not start or stops.

issue as soon as you submit more detailed information.

Hi,
I just installed ser from cvs and when I ran it I got:
% /usr/local/sbin/ser -f /usr/local/etc/ser/ser.cfg
ERROR: bad config file (1 errors)
So I turned on debugging in the ser.cfg file and saw:
% /usr/local/sbin/ser -f /usr/local/etc/ser/ser.cfg

[...]
So I commented out the rewriteFromRoute(); line and the server started
up fine.
Any ideas why it doesn't like that line?
This is on Linux 2.4.18-18.0

Set in your shell prior to calling the serctl utility.
E.g., in Bourne shell, you call
export SIP_DOMAIN="foo.bar.com"
serctl

p.s. Questions about SER better belong to the SER mailing list,
which is at serusers(a)lists.iptel.org.

Greetings,
I have been tying to use serweb but I can only log in when I create the accont via web. If I create the account with serclt script or directly on mysql I get a bad username or password message. Here is my subscriber table from ser database:

I can only log in with account 8000 (wich was created on the web) .
How can I setup other accounts to log on serweb?
Thanks,

Hi,
I have a fixed IP assigned from comcast.net as 68.34.193.70, dns reverse
resolve is pcp667462pcs.indpnd01.mo.comcast.net. On this address I'm running
a freeBSD server with named. I've registered my domain as cavtech.com, and
set this server as it's primary DNS. My DNS resolves cavtech.com as
68.34.193.70, as well as it's hostname of ctimain. I've added a CNAME in the
DNS pointing ser.cavtech.com to ctimain. I've also added the _SIP:_UDP SRV
entry to point to port 5060.
I've added the following to the ser.cfg:
alias="ctimain.cavtech.com"
alias="cavtech.com"
alias="ser.cavtech.com"
I've set up MySQL and ser starts normally.
My goal is to have windows messenger authenticate with my server as an
additional communication server.
My question deals with the www_authorize call. Do I put in the reverse dns
hostname from comcast.net or do I put in "cavtech.com". Likewise when I set
up WM, do I put in "cavtech.com" or "ctimain.cavtech.com" or
"ser.cavtech.com" or the actual revdns hostname? I understand that the realm
column in the MySQL subscriber base must match whatever host name is
correct.
I have an additional sipsak problem but I'll wait for the answer to this to
see if that problem persists.
Thanks.
The file is part of operating system, rather than serweb.
Linux distributions I'm familiar with maintain the file
in question at /usr/share/zoneinfo/zone.tab

ps Please, better post your future questions about ser and serweb to
serusers(a)lists.iptel.org. [sip-implementors] is good primarily for question
about use and building SIP rather than specific implementations.

Hi all,
I'm trying to use the SIP-Jabber GW, but I'm having trouble understanding the documentation. I've installed SER, Jabberd, MySQL and have them all up and running (although this has gone a bit too smoothly, which leads me to think I must have missed out something...). It's all running on Redhat 7.3 on the same machine. The network is a 10.x.x.x network, and DNS is not being used.
I have MSN Messenger 4.7 as the SIMPLE client and Rival3 as the jabber client. What do I do to have these two IM clients talk to each other? What commands do I have to enter?
Thanks,
Usama

OK, thanks, that did the trick.
I added the 'ser' username and password to the 'db_url' parameter, changed '127.0.0.1' to 'localhost', and now it works :)
Thanks again

OK, I've tried running the script as root (and it prompts me for the password) but the permissions still don't get set. So I then log in manually to the mysql database and set the permissions using 'GRANT' to be the same as mentioned in the faq. Unfortunately I still get the following error message:
Dec 12 10:20:25 localhost /usr/sbin/ser[14700]: connect_db(): Access denied for user: 'user(a)localhost.localdomain' (Using password: YES)
Dec 12 10:20:26 localhost /usr/sbin/ser[14700]: db_init(): Error while trying to connect database
Dec 12 10:20:26 localhost /usr/sbin/ser[14700]: init_modules(): Error while initializing module jabber
I'm not sure what else to try. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Subject: RE: RE: [Serusers] SER/SERWeb Howto...
Are you running the script as root? Before upgrading MySQL I did use the grant command,
and managed to get the correct permissions installed. I ran into other problems with the
client libraries, so I did a complete upgrade.
After upgrading the ser_mysql.sh script did everyting it should have and I did not need to
make any changes.
I'm also fairly new to MySQL, but from your error message, it looks like you are running
the script from an account that does not have permissions inside the database.
As root if you run mysql, does it prompt for a password? From your select statement, I
would not expect it to. If it allows you to logon to the database, you can try to assign the
default permissions manually.
