I ran into exactly the same problem in December. There are several reasons why SER may not realize the ACK belongs to the transaction. Look carefully at the via: and from: headers in the INVITE and the ACK. The via: should have a branch parameter, and it should be the same in both. Some UAs do not put in the branch parameter. In this case SER should (according to RFC3261) be looking at the combination of the Request URI, To tag, From tag, Call-ID, Cseq, and top via header. In my case the problem was that SER compares the From field rather than the >From tag, and it does so incorrectly. I raised this issue both here and in the serdev list, (you can find the thread in the December archives), but the developers said they would not fix this because it is in support of an obsolete spec (RFC 2543). I recommend you check those headers to see if your situation actually matches what I ran into, and if so, raise the issue to the serdev list. If enough people complain, they might decide to provide better support of RFC3261, section 17.2.3 (Matching Requests to Server Transactions). Hi all, When I use SER in transaction stateful mode, I have the following problem: When A sends an "INVITE B" to SER, SER forwards the INVITE to B statefully. If B reply with "200 OK", everything goes fine as SER will delete the transaction from memory when it sees the 200 OK. However, if B send an "BUSY HERE" back to SER, SER will send an ACK to B right away and then forwards the "BUSY HERE" to A. A will then send an ACK to SER but SER won't realize that the ACK belong to the transaction and forward it to B. SER will then keep sending "BUSY HERE" to A until the transaction is timed out. I wonder if there is something to add in the configuration file to make SER understand that the ACK send from A should terminate the transaction. Any help will be highly appreciated! Minh

[Serusers] Using SER to bypass port-5060 filter

My ISP, which holds both the broadband and landline telephony monopolies in this area, blocks port 5060. Also, I am behind NAT (at this location; my router has a real address). I am hoping it would be possible to set up a proxy at a 3rd location to make it possible to use the Broadvoice service. I am able to use FWD for incoming and outgoing without trouble, so I don't think there are any other obstacles. I tried setting up my 3rd-location server to simply reflect packets that hit it on UDP port 7000, so they went to Broadvoice's server on port 5060. Unsurprisingly, I suppose, that didn't work. Tcpdump showed that nothing ever came back along that route; I am not sure whether Broadvoice's server was sending replies anywhere, but they sure weren't making it to my intermediate reflecting machine. So I guess there needs to be some rewriting going on. It seems like SER may be the tool for this, but after looking through many example configurations, I was unable to find something as simple as what I'm after. Does anyone have any ideas about a good place for me to start? Is SER in fact an appropriate tool for this task? Thanks. miguel

This is taken from a older answer from me. Hello. As far as i know there is a new command called max_contacts(number), where "number" is the maximun number of contacts that is possible to register for a single user. Unfortunately, this command is available only in the new 0.9 version. I tested it and it seems to do the trick ok. [Serusers] Urgent Cisco CFwdALL Problem

Hello: We just discovered a problem and I am hoping someone on this list can help. Our SER users have Cisco 7960 phones with the SIP v6.3.0 image. All inbound and outbound calling scenerios are working as expected. One person just tried using the call forward all feature of the phone to send all calls elsewhere (off the VoIP cloud) because they will be away for a period of time. Now when someone calls their number they get a reorder tone and an operator generated message saying the called party is unavailable. I've tried capturing the status of this call but all attempts to get the status and subsequently redirect the call to the forwarded number fail in the same way. Has anyone experienced this? If so can you share an example of how you fixed it. This is kind of a pressing issue so any help you can provide is most appreciated. Thanks Steve

I am attempting to have SER act as a local registration server, that forwards all registrations to another SIP Registrar/Proxy that routes calls to the PSTN or wherever they go. The second server also does the call accounting. The reason that the SER server forwards all registrations to the second server is in case incoming calls match a registered SER user that is logged on, make sure they get routed correctly. I also need to make sure any BYEs and CANCELs get forwards to end calls in a timely manner. Can someone take a few moments to tell me what I am doing wrong? Calls are being forwarded corrently if they are not to a local SER user, but if they go from the SER server back to another SER registered user, the client hangs at "Connecting" and the following debug is given in SER. Please dont laugh at any major mistakes in my ser.cfg, I am not a newbie to VoIP, I seem to have problems following the routing logic. Dear users is there any posibility , of generate some some validation like is_user_in(credentials, int) ----> this consult the table SER-->"group" if a user have credentials like INT, to enable INTERNATIONAL calls have_user_balance (balance, 0)----> this can consult a table ser-->balance to ask if a user have a balance > 0 to get access to INT calls ??? if the balance < 0 can be break. any help can be greattly thanks Best Regards Gustavo Villegas

Hi Guys, Just trying to run 0.9.0 from CVS at the moment and it compiles fine, and installed Ok as far as I can see. I've been through ser.cfg and that looks ok, and certainly checks ok if I run 'ser -c -f /usr/local/etc/ser/ser.cfg'. Hi Everybody When I run ser using the ser.cfg default configuration, all the users can connect to my mysql, but When I uncomment the lines who asks for authentication, they can't Authenticate anymore ... First When they are authenticated, I can see, via serctl that there are users connected, and see their usernames, thats to say, mysql is running well but I can't make my users auth at it... Is there a way to test the sip authetnication or, to test the mysql auth without ser ?? Thanks in Advance PS: My ser.cfg is like this (Attached File)

Hi All, Just a quickie, I'm having MEGA problems getting SER/SEMS operating as a voicemail server. I'm running SER as a proxy on 5060 and SER/SEMS on 5090. I can get the calls to divert to SER/SEMS on 5090 if the subscriber is unavailable, but I'm having huge problems getting SER/SEMS running properly. The example conf's in the SER-SEMS howto dont seem to work on my set up, and I keep getting database errors thrown up. I have mailed the SEMS list, but I wondered if anyone here has a working SER/SEMS Voicemail configuration, would you be kind enough to post your ser.cfg and sems.conf so I can compare to try to see where I'm messing it up? [Serusers] Problem with 'replace'

I am trying to manipulate the 'from' header to add a leading zero - our PSTN gateway does not send it over in the from header for CLI. If I use the replace function - replace ( "From:.*<sip:", "From: <sip:0"), then this is OK for the subsequent messages that are forwarded, but not for the current message that is in memory and this is the one that is being put into the database for accounting. Looking at the source it looks like the replace function is effecting the main buffer, but if the from header has already been read then I can manipulate it ! ! Am I right in this thinking. Is there a way around it other then writing my own module ? I'm currently running the ser from the development CVS Thanks Simon
