looked at the code and
perhaps gcc complains, because variable init is it possible to execute
the function without init being used. there was not simple change.
there is a compile time option to disable logging, that will redefine
DBG()/ERR() functions to empty ops, but it is not the case with default
settings. Maybe is some misunderstanding of the code from gcc.
