Not being the developers of the custom global variables, I have very little experience
with them, and I couldn't spot anything wrong quickly. The crash seems to be when
checking if one of these variables was changed or not.
As alternative suggestion, if you don't need to change them, then better use `#!define
...`, which can also be accessed with the variable `$def(...)`.
