Hello,
this please send me the debug messages when these events happen.
Also, you could you watch the traffic between Jabber server and SER 
(using ngrep or ethereal on port 5222, and loopback interface if both 
are on the same machine) and see if the presence messages from ICQ are 
delivered to SER. If you could send them will be very useful.

The away status -- I guess you use MSN Messenger -- appears because the 
client does not recognize the standard specifications for presence notifies.
