yes, the integration done in that way is practically to give media 
services to kamailio subscribers without a need to add records in two 
database. So, when a new record is added to kamailio subscriber table, 
via the sipusers view, asterisk become aware of it and its able to 
hadle, for example, immediately voicemails.

This reminds me that I should update the tutorial for kamailio 3.0, 
although there are no radical changes...

Anyway, more recently I wrote a different way of doing realtime 
integration with asterisk, maybe closer for what you are looking, this 
one is posted at:
