Daniel,

Changes to ser.cfg will require a server restart. Unfortunately there
is not 'reload' like apache has.

Logging is quite easy.

log(1, "Some message");

will write to syslog. You can also use the xlog module for this. See
the xlog README which is located under <ser-source>/modules/xlog
