Hi Oliver,
take a look at these links. It will give you a quick
intro to SER intallation and configuration.

To untar the tarball, you can issue the following
command.
#tar -xzvf ser-0.xx_src.tar.gz
Alternatively you can download the source code from
the cvs tree.
