[Serusers] Problem with ser_mysql.sh (was libmysql)

I installed mysql from: mysql-standard-4.1.12-pc-linux-gnu-i686.tar.gz by
tar zxvf it to /usr/local where I have also made a symbolic link.
I am using Fedora Core 3.
Installation folder is /usr/local/mysql

How did you install MySQL?  What OS are you running?  Where did the binaries
get placed?
