Hi,

Just want to add a few comments.

SipUMS is an open source project and designed to be a
commercial grade Unified Messaging System. It is
mainly written in Perl with more than 20,000 line of
code. Also it has a companion for web admin.

It is a feature-rich and very flexible system. When a
message is left in the mailbox, it is forwarded to the
user's email account as well as saved on the server. A
user can dial in to check, save, and delete messages
via a normal telephone. It also sends a MWI (Message
Waiting Indicator) signal to an IP phone to inform
messages in the mailbox. If a message is deleted on
the server, it is also deleted in the email box if
IMAP email server is used. The above is only a few
features supported.

To make the system flexible, every voicemail includes
a sequence of actions saved in mysql server. For
example, when a user calls in, the first action is to
prompt a welcome message, then check the password. If
user is authenticated, then prompt number of new and
old messages in the system. This sequence can be
reprogrammed via a web admin tool so that every domain
or even user can has its unique sequence.

I strongly encourage anyone who wants a full-feature
voicemail and IVR system to try it out. It is an open
source project and free for anyone to use. Servpac is
fully behind it. If you read the installation document
and still have question, please send the question to
our mailing list, sipums in http://lists.servpac.com.
We will answer every question you have.

The system relies on ser and sems to run. So the admin
of this system is expected to know ser and sems. Since
it is sip based, you don't have to use ser as a proxy
server. You can use another proxy server and just
forward all voicemail and IVR calls to it.

Best regards,
Richard
