maybe a small tune of avp_check("", "re/") to detect pseudo-variables at 
fixup time and then behave accordingly at run time should do it. Please 
register the feature request on the tracker, to avoid forgetting it 
(http://sourceforge.net/tracker/?group_id=139143).
