Advantages: higher throughput, reduced complexity of topology.

Disadvantages: no topology hiding (topoh + rtpproxy notwithstanding), 
potentially increased interoperability problems (since the proxy 
provides a very thin interop layer compared to a B2BUA like Freeswitch), 
somewhat threadbare support for upstream registration and authentication 
to your providers (if required).
