Hi Richard,
The reason is that we are trying to bootstrap a community of people who can
contribute to improving the document by commenting on it, as well as
submitting modules, experiences etc. Registration facilitates community
building.

For comparison:
Iptel.org is a site dedicated to SIP resources and ser as a SIP server
(and associated software)

voip-info is an "unstructured" site for sharing experiences and
knowledge

onsip.org is a site dedicated to practial use of ser, as well as any other
software package you need to become your own service provider.
Contributions are semi-structured with comments associated with documents,
modules, etc. Also, for the time being, the "Getting Started" group is
volunteering to be editors to ensure integrity and increase visitors ability
to quickly find what they are looking for.

We are not trying to replace or overlap with iptel.org or voip-info, but
rather fill the needs gap.

Regards,
Greger
