Still a small side note: 

with: alias=office.dns
scott-ux:/usr/local/etc/ser # ser -E
 0(2114) parse error (25,14-17): parse error
 0(2114) parse error (25,14-17): invalid hostname
Segmentation fault

with: alias="office.dns"
