Hello,
check if you have installed and loaded the mysql module for PHP. It is 
usually delivered as a separate package "php-mysql". If you use a rpm 
base operating system (like RedHat) use 'rpm -q php-mysql' otherwise you 
must know what is your package manager and use it accordingly.
