No follow up on this for quite a while, if still interest on it, based on look at the patch I suggest:

- make this behaviour optional, it looks rather like a bug in the phones, not a RFC requirement to have notify with no useful data structures
- handle this situation with a dedicated function that builds this xml document -- calling the function that build the xml doc for valid cases results in mallocs and memsets of size 0, which can have unknown effects. So better make a function that build the xml you want -- you can pull the parts from existing function for valid cases
