Hello Andrei,

do we really need to stay compatible to gcc 2.9.5? I personally don't miss 
this version, as it can't cope with this type of variable declarations among 
many other problems. I mean, even the linux kernel requires now at least gcc 
3.2 now.

README from 2.6.30 something:

 221 COMPILING the kernel:
 222 
 223  - Make sure you have at least gcc 3.2 available.
 224    For more information, refer to Documentation/Changes
