Of course you are free to use Kamailio for commercial use. You can
embed it in a product you sell or give away.

What you can't do, is change it and sell your own version without
supplying the source.

Any Kamailio with changes that you distribute to a customer is
licensed under GPL, including your code.
The customer has the right to get that code and do anything the GPL
permits him/her/it to do with it, including
giving it back to the project or publishing it on the Internet.

You will of course have copyright for all your new code.

What is unclear to me is software that use the MI interface. In
Asterisk, our license has a very clear
exception for this, so that commercial software can connect to it,
without being forced to license their
software under GPL.

Kamailo doesn't exist with a special commercial license. All the
contributions are under GPL and
there has been no license management, like what's being done for
Asterisk. It's both good and bad ;-)
For the new sip-router core, another concept is used to handle
licensing.

I'm not a lawyer. If you really need some guidance on this for a
larger project, please consult with one.

/O
