Okay. Didn't spot the issue in the list. I did notice your changes which is 
why I tried svn head.

make
make TLS=1
make all
make prefix=/usr all
etc.

All of them ends up in "main.d" loop.

I'm using Slackware 11.0.

$ make -v
GNU Make 3.81

$ gcc --version
gcc (GCC) 3.4.6

$ bison -V
bison (GNU Bison) 2.1

$ flex -V
flex version 2.5.4
