[Devel] crash when handling subscribe

this is very bad, because openser now dies every time it gets a
subscribe, i.e., all the time.  i was running this without problems
earlier.  now i switched to another host and started to get the crashes.
i have tried to check that all db tables are up-to date, but even if
they were not, i would not expect to get a crash.
