The following two lines produced the output below.

xlog("L_NOTICE", "zO - busy)\n");
xlog("L_NOTICE", "NO - busy)\n");

Dec  5 10:29:26 ser2 openser[61748]: zO - busy)
Dec  5 10:29:26 ser2 openser[61748]: 0 - busy)

I just tried and works for me:
Dec 15 16:24:12 localhost openser-xlog[6557]: zO - busy) 
Dec 15 16:24:12 localhost openser-xlog[6557]: NO - busy) 

Could you give more details (OS, arch,...)?
