Hi Gang
While testing our interconnection signalling with a carrier it was noted that we pass on REFER from CPE to the origin of the call via an IC. We are supposed to handle them locally.
I wonder if somebody has an example how to correctly do this in Kamailio.

In general, a proxy should not handle REFER - just forward it to the involved endpoints. That’s the original idea in the standards. In reality there are situations like yours where REFERs should be handled locally. How depends on the type of REFER - attended or blind. There’s always a status involved to handle the case where the party you are referring to is busy or not answering and make sure the call returns to the original state, if all parties are still around.
For customers with their own PBX, I would simply just deny the REFER. For customers with phones, it’s a bit more tricky.
In most cases some sort of external media bridge will be needed.
Sorry for not having a clear answer and a pointer to a super-module for this :-)

Hello,
Kamailio is not a B2BUA, so it cannot handle REFER on its own for creating a different call. Usually, people are using a dedicated B2BUA for that kind of tasks, like Asterisk, Freeswitch etc..
Cheers,
Henning
