yes, make install. You can read a tutorial about installing kamailio 3.2 from git at:

you have to upgrade to 3.2.1 (or use the latest git branch 3.2). The current keepalive mechanism was refactored a bit after the release of 3.2.0, as they were overlapping cases.

Note that from the moment you set the gateway in some state and you dump the list via mi, there can be keepalives that change the state.
