Well, I'll be damned. Your log message gave me the clue. I was simply missing modparam("jsonrpcs", "transport", 1). I must have missed that in the upgrade.
Maybe that parameter should be added to the default kamailio.cfg since the Default value is '6' (fifo and datagram transport).
