This kind of issues are unfortunately known from OpenSSL, it does not work well in multi-process environments since some time anymore. We have done several changes to the tls module and also added the tlsa static version as well. In the future the tls_wolfssl module will also provide hopefully a better alternative.
Regarding the issue about sharing the error handler, thanks for the additional information. If you have a potential code fix, just submit a pull request for review and possible applying to the code base. It might be possible to initialize the error handler also in the individual child processes as a bug fix.
