Initial Comment:
The attached patch allows you to do host names like:

server-01.example.com

The existing parser doesn't allow this sort of thing, because you can't have a number after a host_sep.  I've been dragging this patch with me for about 3 years now, so I figured I'd see if anyone else was interested in it.
